ALICE IN WONDERLAND by JOHN TENNIEL serigraph print

Lewis Carroll self-published his book Alice in Wonderland in 1865. One reason he paid for publishing it himself was so he could have more control with every detail of the book. Originally, Carroll intended to illustrate the book himself; but luckily, his good friend talked him into hiring one of the most famous illustrators in London–John Tenniel. Tenniel was the principal illustrator for London's celebrated Punch magazine, and well-known throughout Britain. With Tenniel's help, the book was a huge success, not only in England but in America and Europe as well. A second book was called for, even from Queen Victoria. But Tenniel refused to work with the "difficult" author again. After years of negotiating and pleading, Lewis Carroll was finally able to secure Tenniel's talent for the second book, Alice Though the Looking-Glass.

We took Tenniel's illustration of Alice playing croquet with a flamingo and hedgehog and colored it. We then put a classic Victorian border around it so now it's the perfect print to hang in your child's room, or even your library. 

This serigraph print is printed on white Rives BFK French archival paper. The paper is 22" x 30." The image is 19" x 25."
