Old World Map by John Speed 1626

John Speed was an important historian and cartographer in the early 17th century in England. His double hemispheric map, published in 1627, was by far the most detailed and informative world map in English in its time and printed for decades after his death. There are still unknown parts in his map–Antartica is called Magillanica. And there are, of course, also some mistakes: California is an island; Japan is too round; Australia is yet to be discovered. But this is an exciting stage in discovery, and Speed was unsurpassed in his time as a cartographer.
This reproduction of his map is an 14 color screen print. The 30" x 22" paper is Rives BFK 100% cotton rag archival paper. The inks used are also archival. Speed's decorative boarder is faithfully reproduced. The image is 25" x 19". There are 200 prints in this edition, with each print titled and numbered in pencil. This would be an exciting addition to any map lover's collection.
