The Last Zap comic! Created by: R. Crumb, S. Clay Wilson, Gilbert Shelton, Victor Moscoso, Paul Mavrides, Robert Williams, Rick Griffin and Spain. This final, giant issue not only includes work by all eight Zap artists but also three double-page jams by the group. Plus: Zap's first-and-only color section, featuring comics by R. Crumb and Gilbert Shelton (his final Zap Wonder Wart-hog episode, no less). Paul Mavrides provides an alternately embellished version of Gilbert Shelton's and his Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers episode, "Phineas Becomes a Suicide Bomber." Front cover by R. Crumb. Back cover by Moscoso. Black & white with 16 pages of color. This is actually a soft-cover book rather than a comic book, and in it, the most influential underground comic book artists say goodbye to Zap.
5 Stars
Crazed comix consumer
ZAP #16 is a great one. Not only the biggest issue at 96 pages, but it has everything you have come to know and expect from the original underground comic. Excellent stories from ZAP artists R. Crumb, Aline Kominsky, S. Clay Wilson, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, Gilbert Shelton, Spain Rodriguez, Robert Williams and Paul Mavrides. You'll recognize many old favorites like the Checkered Demon, Aline and Bob, Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and encounter many other new and characters I haven't seen in years. This issue features a Crumb story, "The Unbearable Tediousness of Being" and Gilbert Shelton Wonder Warthog story that are both in glorious full color. Yes!! It is so worth the $. I give it 16 stars!
